Embroidery Machine won't read the USB

The most common reasons are that the file is still zipped, it is the wrong format, or the design is bigger than your machine's hoop. Work through these checks in order.

1.      The file is still zipped. Machines can't read ZIP folders. Unzip the download on your computer and copy the design file itself.

2.      It's the wrong format. Your machine only shows formats it understands. Copy the file that matches your machine, such as .pes for Brother or .jef for Janome.

3.      The design is too big for your hoop. Many machines hide a design that is larger than their biggest embroidery area. Copy the smaller size instead.

4.      The file is inside a folder. Some machines only look at the top level of the USB drive. Move the design out of any folders.

5.      The USB drive is too large. Older machines often can't read high-capacity drives. Try a small drive, and check your manual for the size it supports.

6.      The drive is formatted wrong. Most machines need the drive formatted as FAT32.

7.      The file name is a problem. Very long names or special characters can stop a file from showing. Rename it to something short using letters and numbers.

8.      The drive is crowded. Remove other files so only the design you want is on it.

If a design still won't show, download it again and repeat the steps. A file can be damaged if the USB drive is pulled out before copying finishes.
