Can I iron over machine embroidery?

Yes, you can iron embroidered fabric, but it is best to avoid placing a hot iron directly on the embroidered stitches.

Iron From the Back

Turn the garment or fabric inside out and iron from the back whenever possible. This helps protect the embroidery from direct heat and pressure.

Use the Right Temperature

Follow the fabric's care instructions and use the appropriate iron temperature. Avoid excessive heat, especially with synthetic embroidery thread.

Protect the Stitches

If you need to iron near the embroidery, use a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric. Avoid pressing heavily on raised or textured stitches.

Be Careful With Appliqué

Appliqué embroidery may require extra care because the fabric and stitching can be affected by direct heat. Iron from the back and follow the care instructions for the fabric and appliqué materials.

Best Tip

For the safest results, turn the item inside out, use the temperature recommended for the fabric, and avoid putting the iron directly over the embroidery.
