Machine Embroidery Designs FAQ

These are the most frequently asked questions about our machine embroidery designs. File formats, hoop sizes, downloading and unzipping your files, thread colors, and getting designs onto your machine. If you're new to machine embroidery, start here.

What formats do the designs come in?
Designs include JEF, DST, EXP, HUS, PES, PEC, VIP, VP3, and XXX formats.

How many hoop sizes are included?
Our embroidery designs come in three sizes to fit 4x4, 5x7, and 6x10 hoops.

How do the designs download, and are they instant?
All designs are digital files available for instant download after purchase. Your files arrive as a ZIP folder. Most computers have a built-in feature for unzipping or extracting ZIP files.

How do I put the designs into my embroidery machine?
First unzip the ZIP file, then select the format that matches your machine, such as PES or JEF. Copy that file to a USB drive, or transfer it directly to your machine if it connects to your computer.

Do I need an embroidery machine to use these designs?
Yes. These are digital machine embroidery files, not SVG files or physical patches. You need an embroidery machine and should know how to operate it before purchasing machine embroidery designs.

What can I use these designs on?
They can be used on shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, hats, tote bags, quilts, blankets, pillows, towels, and other suitable projects.

Can I resize the embroidery designs?
We do not recommend resizing designs, because changing the size can affect stitch density, registration, and overall stitch quality.

Is a color chart included?
Yes. A color chart is included inside the ZIP file with the recommended thread colors and stitching sequence.

Which thread brand do you reference in your color charts?
We use Robison-Anton thread colors as our reference. If you use another brand, such as Sulky, Madeira, or Isacord, please refer to that manufacturer's color chart for conversion information.

What is the difference between applique and filled designs?
Applique designs require you to add fabric during the embroidery process, while filled designs are stitched entirely with embroidery thread.

Do I receive a physical product?
No. These are digital embroidery files. Nothing is shipped, and the files are available for download immediately after purchase.
