Can I use a PES file on a Janome embroidery machine?

Generally, no. Most Janome embroidery machines do not use PES files directly. Janome's standard embroidery format is JEF, although some Janome models also support formats such as DST.

Janome Uses JEF

JEF is the default stitch-data format for Janome and Elna embroidery machines. When downloading a design for a Janome machine, choose the JEF file whenever it is available.

What If You Only Have a PES File?

If you only have a PES file, you can use embroidery software to convert it to JEF. It is better to use the original JEF file when available rather than converting the design yourself.

Check Your Specific Janome Model

File compatibility can vary between Janome models. Some newer machines support additional formats, including DST, so check your machine's manual before using a different file format.

Best Tip

If you have a Janome embroidery machine, download the JEF version of the design whenever possible. This avoids unnecessary conversion and gives your machine the format it was designed to use.
