How Do I Put Embroidery Designs on a USB Stick?

To put an embroidery design on a USB stick, download the correct embroidery file, extract it if it comes in a ZIP folder, and copy the file directly to a USB stick that your embroidery machine supports.

Download the Embroidery Design

Download the design to your computer. If the download is a ZIP folder, extract it first. Your embroidery machine needs the actual embroidery file, not the ZIP file.

Use the Correct File Format

Choose the file format your machine supports, such as PES, JEF, DST, EXP, HUS, PEC, VIP, VP3, or XXX. Check your machine's manual if you are unsure which format to use.

Insert Your USB Stick

Plug a compatible USB stick into your computer. Open the USB drive and copy the embroidery file onto it. Some embroidery machines require designs to be placed in a specific folder, so check your machine's instructions.

Safely Eject the USB

After copying the design, safely eject the USB stick from your computer. This helps prevent files from becoming damaged during the transfer.

Insert the USB Into Your Machine

Insert the USB stick into your embroidery machine and use the machine's screen to find the design. If the design does not appear, check the file format, USB compatibility, file name, and design size.

Quick Checklist

  • Download the embroidery design.
  • Extract the ZIP folder if necessary.
  • Use the correct file format for your machine.
  • Copy the design to the USB stick.
  • Safely eject the USB from your computer.
  • Insert the USB into your embroidery machine.
  • Check that the design fits your hoop.

Best Tip

Do not copy the entire ZIP folder to your USB and expect the machine to read it. Make sure you copy the actual embroidery file in the format your machine supports.
