Why Can't My Machine Display Some Embroidery Designs?

The most common reasons an embroidery machine cannot display some designs are an unsupported file format, a design that is too large, an incompatible file, an improperly formatted USB drive, or a file name the machine cannot read.

The File Format Is Not Supported

Your machine can only display embroidery formats it is designed to read. Check your exact machine model to see which file formats it supports.

The Design Is Too Large

Some machines will not display a design if it exceeds the maximum embroidery area or hoop size. Check the design's width and height and compare them with your machine's limits.

The File Is Damaged

A damaged or incomplete embroidery file may not appear on the machine at all. Try downloading the design again and copying a fresh version to your USB drive.

The USB Drive Is Not Compatible

Your computer may show the files normally while your embroidery machine cannot read the USB drive. The machine may require a specific USB format, storage capacity, or folder structure.

The File Name May Be a Problem

Some older embroidery machines have limitations on file names. If a design does not appear, try using a shorter file name with simple letters and numbers.

The Design Was Converted

A converted embroidery file may contain information that your machine cannot properly read. When possible, use the original file format intended for your machine.

Quick Troubleshooting Checklist

  • Confirm the file format is supported.
  • Check that the design fits your machine's embroidery area.
  • Download the file again if it may be damaged.
  • Check that the USB drive is compatible with your machine.
  • Try a shorter, simpler file name.
  • Use the original embroidery format whenever possible.

Best Tip

If your machine displays some embroidery designs but not others, compare the files that work with the files that do not. Check the file format, design size, file name, and how the files were transferred. This can quickly help identify the problem.
