Why does my embroidery machine keep stopping?

The most common reasons an embroidery machine keeps stopping are thread breaks, needle problems, bobbin issues, thread tangles, or the machine detecting another problem. Here’s how to troubleshoot it:

Thread is breaking
Many embroidery machines automatically stop when the upper thread breaks. Check the thread path, tension, spool, and needle, and re-thread the machine if necessary.

Needle problems
A bent, dull, or broken needle can cause the machine to stop. Replace the needle with the correct embroidery needle for your fabric and thread.

Bobbin problems
The machine may stop when the bobbin runs out, is inserted incorrectly, or the bobbin thread becomes tangled. Check the bobbin and make sure it is installed correctly.

Thread is tangled or catching
Check around the needle, bobbin area, spool, and thread path for knots or snags. Remove any tangled thread before continuing.

Hoop or embroidery arm obstruction
Make sure the hoop is properly attached and can move freely. Nothing should interfere with the hoop or embroidery arm while the machine is stitching.

Needle is hitting something
If the needle hits the hoop, presser foot, or another part of the machine, stop immediately and check the setup. Continuing to stitch can cause damage.

Machine needs cleaning
Lint and thread buildup around the bobbin area or other moving parts can interfere with stitching. Clean the machine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
