Why does my machine say the design is too large?
The most common reason your embroidery machine says a design is too large is that the design exceeds the maximum embroidery area of your machine or the hoop you selected.
The Design Is Too Large for Your Hoop
Check the design's width and height and compare them with your hoop's actual embroidery area. For example, a design that fits a 5x7 hoop will not fit a machine limited to a 4x4 embroidery area.
Your Machine Has a Smaller Sewing Area
The physical size of a hoop is not always the same as the area your machine can actually stitch. Check your machine's specifications for its maximum embroidery area.
The Wrong Hoop Is Selected
If your machine allows multiple hoop sizes, make sure the correct hoop is selected on the machine. A design may show as too large if the machine is set to a smaller hoop.
The Design Was Resized
If you enlarged the design, it may have exceeded the maximum size your machine can stitch. Excessive resizing can also affect stitch density and design quality.
The Design Is Close to the Maximum Size
Some machines require a small amount of clearance around the design. A design that appears to fit the hoop dimensions may still be slightly too large for the machine's actual sewing area.
Quick Troubleshooting Checklist
- Check the design's exact width and height.
- Check your machine's maximum embroidery area.
- Make sure the correct hoop is selected.
- Check whether the design was enlarged.
- Leave some clearance around the design when possible.
Best Tip
When your machine says the design is too large, compare the actual design dimensions with your machine's maximum sewing area. If the design does not fit, choose a smaller version rather than resizing it excessively.
