Why is my embroidery machine skipping stitches?
The most common reasons an embroidery machine skips stitches are a dull or incorrect needle, incorrect threading, improper hooping, thread tension problems, or the needle not forming the stitch correctly. Here’s how to troubleshoot each one:
Wrong or damaged needle
Replace the needle with a new embroidery needle that is the correct size for your fabric and thread. A bent, dull, or damaged needle is one of the first things to check.
Machine is threaded incorrectly
Re-thread the upper thread carefully, making sure it passes through every thread guide and the tension area correctly. A missed guide can cause inconsistent stitching.
Fabric or stabilizer is moving
If the fabric shifts while stitching, the needle may not catch the bobbin thread correctly. Make sure the fabric and stabilizer are firmly secured in the hoop.
Incorrect thread tension
Tension that is too tight or too loose can interfere with proper stitch formation. Check your machine's tension settings and make a test stitch.
Needle is not inserted correctly
Make sure the needle is pushed all the way into the needle clamp and installed in the correct direction for your machine.
Needle is hitting the hoop or embroidery foot
Check that the hoop is properly attached and that nothing is interfering with the needle's movement. Stop the machine immediately if you hear the needle hitting anything.
Thread is catching or not feeding smoothly
Make sure the thread spool turns freely and the thread is not catching on the spool, thread stand, or machine. Check the thread path for anything that could create extra tension.
Design is too dense or has a digitizing issue
