What Is VIP Format in Machine Embroidery?
VIP format in machine embroidery is a file type read by older Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff embroidery machines. A VIP file ends in .vip and tells the machine exactly where to place each stitch.
VIP sits between two other formats. It came after HUS, the original Husqvarna Viking format, and before VP3, which is the current format for both Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff. Machines from that middle period use VIP, and newer machines use VP3.
A VIP file is a set of instructions, not a picture. It holds:
- the position of every stitch
- where the machine should jump, trim and stop
- the order of the thread colors
Not sure whether your machine needs VIP, HUS or VP3? Check your manual for the formats it lists. If VP3 is supported, choose that one, since it is the newest. Use VIP if your machine doesn't read VP3.
VIP is one of several machine embroidery formats. Each machine brand reads its own, such as PES for Brother and Baby Lock and JEF for Janome. Most embroidery designs are sold with several formats in one download, so you pick the file that matches your machine.
