What Is VP3 Format in Machine Embroidery?
VP3 format in machine embroidery is the file type that current Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff embroidery machines read. A VP3 file ends in .vp3 and tells the machine exactly where to place each stitch.
VP3 is the newest of the Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff formats. It replaced the older HUS and VIP formats, and it is the one to choose for a recent machine from either brand.
A VP3 file is a set of instructions, not a picture. It holds:
- the position of every stitch
- where the machine should jump, trim and stop
- the order of the thread colors
Not sure whether your machine needs VP3, VIP or HUS? Check your manual for the formats it lists. If VP3 is supported, use it. If you have an older machine that doesn't read VP3, use VIP or HUS instead.
VP3 is one of several machine embroidery formats. Each machine brand reads its own, such as PES for Brother and Baby Lock and JEF for Janome. Most embroidery designs are sold with several formats in one download, so you pick the file that matches your machine.
